About Yoga

Yoga – an ancient Hindu system of self-improvement and asceticism, nowadays is widely known and increasingly popular all over the world. Interest and even fascination with yoga are not always accompanied by deep reflection. There can be found several reasons for such status quo. Yoga roots date back to prehistoric, the Pre-Vedic times, and its history is multithreaded. There have been various yoga schools and miscellaneous traditions.

Yoga has existed in various relationships with oriental religions, as well as with spiritual and philosophical systems. Its appearance at the turn of the 19th and 20th century in the West began the initiation process of “transferring” yoga particular aspects into categories of Western civilization. Then, first copyright works popularizing yoga were developed. Besides, ancient yoga texts, including Patanjali Yoga Sutra, were translated into western languages. The notion of yoga was gaining its popularity; however, the knowledge of its true meaning was still slight. Yoga did not fit in with Western cultural categories. It exceeded the boundaries of traditionally designed areas and disciplines as well as it combined aspects such as philosophy and religion together with a physical activity, mind and breath work. Profound yoga popularization required development of new terminology and reformation of an existing model of a human being. Furthermore, it obligated to examine the foundation of your own culture and it was a thought-provoking factor in the area of the values and valuation. However, it put the strongest emphasis on the practice full of commitment.
